ONLINE
  • Theoi.com's section on Dionysos; mostly a large collection of snippets from primary sources, and very useful for casual research.
  • Academia.edu's section on Dionysos; a collection of freely available academic papers of varying professionalism and usefulness.

BOOKS
  • Dionysos: Archetypal Image of Indestructible Life, by Karoly Kerényi. Amazon link. Published in 1973 by an elderly scholar and therefore kind of dated in its language and philosophy, this is still a major source of the ideas used for this character. The author traces not just the character but the entire religion of Dionysos through its history, starting with speculated origins in Minoan Crete. Kerényi was a contemporary and colleague of Jung and it shows in his approach to mythology.
  • Dionysos, by Richard Seaford. A much more modern overview of the history and character of Dionysos and his cult, published in 2005. Not quite as poetic as the previous book listed here, but a solid offering for the most part.
